| Exclusive Excitement
Trans Am 30th Anniversary Special Edition PONTIAC, Mich. Pontiac's Trans Am turns 30 in 1999. That's a very impressive milestone for a high performance car. Much has happened in the automotive industry since the Trans Am first appeared in March of 1969. The original muscle car era came and went. Oil shortages, insurance surcharges, tough emissions standards, and seemingly unattainable fuel economy requirements never stopped the Trans Am. Competitors fell by the wayside, but throughout all the changes and challenges, Trans Ams kept getting better. The culmination of all those great predecessors is the 30th Anniversary Trans Am. This is no mere show package; the Trans Am packs 320-horsepower and 335 ft-lb of Ram Air-equipped excitement. The four-speed automatic is standard and the wonderful six-speed manual transmission is available as a no-cost option. Power four-wheel disc brakes and ABS combine with the tuned suspension to make the '99 Trans Am stop and handle as well as it accelerates. All this performance is combined with comfort and luxury levels unheard of in muscle cars 30 years ago. The 30th Anniversary Trans Am is loaded with power equipment from which to choose. Four radios, two transmissions, and whether you want open or closed motoring are the only decisions. Convertible buyers will have to be quicker than coupe customers. Total production is slated at 1,065 coupes (65 for Canada) and 535 convertibles (35 for Canada) so they're sure to go in a hurry and garner strong collector interest. Traditional white and blue colors are back once more for the 1999 30th Anniversary Trans Am. Twin blue stripes on the Ram Air hood and rear deck lid highlight the Arctic White body. Instead of the larger Firebirds on previous Anniversary Editions, the '99s feature two small blue Firebirds at the front of each WS6 Ram Air hood scoop. The stripes extend from the wings. Highly polished cast aluminum 17 x 9-inch five-spoke wheels are topped with a medium-blue-tinted clearcoat. The unique wheels look like polished blue steel. Thirtieth Anniversary logo center caps and P275/40ZR17 tires complete the package. Identification Excitement is an integral part of the entire 1999 Firebird Trans Am product line. With the limited production 30th Anniversary Trans Am the difference, like past Anniversary Editions, is that the excitement will be a little more exclusive. 30th Anniversary Trans Am Powertrain 5.7 Liter OHV V8 (LS1) Application Standard on Formula, Trans Am Displacement 5.7 liters 346 cu-in Bore x stroke 99 mm x 92 mm 3.90 in x 3.62 in Compression ratio 10.5:1 Horsepower (WS6 Ram Air) 320 bhp @ 5200 rpm Torque (WS6 Ram Air) 335 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm Block material Aluminum Cylinder head material Aluminum Ignition system Coil-near-plug Alternator 105 amps Battery 12 volt Maximum engine speed 6000 rpm Fuel delivery Sequential-port fuel injection Fuel requirement 91 octane recommended Emission control system Dual catalytic converter/ EGR 4-Speed Electronic RWD Application Optional on Formula/TA 1st gear 3.06 2nd gear 1.63 3rd gear 1.00 4th gear 0.70 Reverse 2.29 Final drive 2.73:1 (3.23:1 opt) MPG (city/hwy) 18/24 Cruising range (city/hwy) 303/403 1st gear 2.66 2nd gear 1.78 3rd gear 1.30 4th gear 1.00 5th gear 0.74 6th gear 0.50 Reverse 2.90 Final drive 3.42:1 MPG estimated (city/hwy) 17/26 Cruising range (city/hwy) 285/437 All About the 30th Anniversary Edition Firebird Trans Am Pontiac backs every 1999 Firebird with the following services: Extensive 3-year/36,000-mile (whichever comes first) bumper-to-bumper limited warranty 24-hour Roadside Assistance that provides in an emergency: Free lockout assistance Free dead-battery assistance Free out-of-fuel assistance Free flat-tire change Free towing for warranty repairs Courtesy transportation Exterior Features Performance and Handling Package: Includes Ram Air Induction System; specifically tuned suspension; dual outlet polished exhaust; power steering cooler; and specific blue-tint 17" aluminum high-polished five-spoke 30th Anniversary wheels and P275/40ZR17 speed-rated tires Antenna, power Fog lamps Hatch roof with sunshade, removable, locking Moldings, bodyside, body color Spoiler, rear deck lid Tires (steel-belted radial):* P275/40ZR17 speed-rated Wheels: Medium blue-tinted clear coat over high-polished 17" x 9" five-spoke, 30th Anniversary, cast aluminum Interior Features Air Bags, Next Generation: Driver and front passenger** Air-conditioning Console, full-length Cruise control Defogger: Electric rear window Side window Hatch release, remote *Vehicle top speed varies depending on tire selected.
